What's Wrong With Using Spreadsheets?

With the rising popularity of ERP, MRP and PLM software, it’s become essential for businesses to incorporate their bill of material and job order data throughout an integrated system. Unfortunately, many manufacturers are still using common spreadsheet applications like Microsoft Excel for their bill of materials. Because a program like Excel doesn’t use dedicated cells for parts, quantity or description, it’s easy to enter the wrong information. Spreadsheet programs also don’t have the capacity to track part inventory and part allocation in real time. Manufacturers relying on spreadsheet programs for BOM’s are risking costly production errors down the road.
